:monday: Instead of making one huge, ginormous post… I split all the news topics up into several smaller posts (ok… some not so small!) So the three posts prior to this one are all new, too! I’ll leave this one short and sweet since all the news is in the others!

Yay, 3 chatters, will you chat?

I’ve been using a Garmin Edge 305 on my bike for over a couple of years now. It hasn’t always been perfect… as a matter of fact I was on my third replacement! The first one died near the end of the Mulholland Challenge the first year I did it…. The replacement lasted longer and died just before the KOM series this year…. However it worked pretty much flawlessly until then. The third replacement started shutting off during rides… the first time being at Ride Around the Bear. I did some research and found that the problem will only get worse as it’s a flaw in the design… Rather than return that one for a fourth try, I decided to return it and up the ante with the new Edge 705. My first reaction when I opened the box: “This thing is honkin’ huge!” (yes… that’s exactly what I said to hubby when I called him!) The color screen is gorgeous, though! And I do like that the screen area is a bit bigger so easier to see on the bike! The 705 does everything the 305 did only more! Much more! You see…. while the 305 used GPS to track speed, elevation, etc… that was about it… whereas the 705 will actually guide you! The first thing I did was set HOME. Tomorrow I’ll set Jumbo Rocks or where ever we end up at as yet another Favorite. Now granted, I don’t need GPS navigation around here… but I do like the feature if/when we decide to ride elsewhere and I also like the ETA and other time references that you can now set to see! When I did my first ride the other day, since I had set HOME, I was able to have the ETA showing on my way back home once I turned around! Yep… I’m a GEEK! I haven’t been able to play with any more navigation than that for now, as I’m waiting for my microSD card. We already had a cd of Garmin mapping, so I didn’t buy the version that came with maps already installed… I’m hoping it will arrive today so I can load them onto the card prior to tomorrow’s ride! Here’e a pic of how it looks if you have it on a map screen:
